Dinky Toys 114; Triumph Spitfire

Dinky Cars England

Originally based on the Herald platform the Spitfire is a pretty little roadster aimed squarely at the MGB and Austin Healey - odd that all the players were BMC cars!

The Triumph Spitfire was a small British two-seat sports car, introduced in October 1962. The vehicle was based on a design produced for Standard-Triumph in 1957 by Italian designer Giovanni Michelotti. The codename for the vehicle was the "Bomb". Throughout its life it was built at the Standard-Triumph works at Canley, Coventry.

The Spit was in the Dinky range from 1963 to 1971, and it is a good one. It's a shame that Triumph kept updating the car as the Dinky was looking very last decade by the end of the run.  From 1963 to 1966 the car was either red or silver-grey, from 1966 to 1970 it was metallic gold, with or without an Esso tiger in your tank graphic on the boot and from 1970 to 1971 it was metallic purple. They all have a female driver figure wearing a seat belt..
