Dinky Toys; Ford Fordor Sedan

Full-size Ford is the popular term for a long-running line of Ford vehicles in North America with a shared model lineage. Beginning in 1908 with the Model T, the line ended fifteen generations later in 2019 with the production of the final Ford Taurus as Ford withdrew sedans from the North American market. With the exception of the Taurus (which entered production in 2005 as the Ford Five Hundred), all models of the lineage shared body-on-frame construction and rear-wheel drive; the Ford Crown Victoria was the last body-on-frame car in mass production at its 2011 discontinuation. A number of generations of the full size Ford had 'Fordor' as part of their model description, this is the 1949 car, simply known as the 1949 Ford, model names started turning up in the next decade.

I like this car, the whole thing looks and feels right, a well made and modelled miniature of a stylish old car. It is an old one too, introduced in 1949 it was in the Dinky range for ten years. I don't know quite why I like this car so much, it is just so right, well modelled and well made sums it up.

The Dinky car, introduced in 1949 as 139a, it got a model number change to 170 in 1954. Early releases were sold from trays of 6 pieces. At about the same time as the number change the car began to be sold individually boxed. All the 139a cars have a single colour body with sometimes matching, sometimes contrasting hubs. From 1956 to 1958 the cars were two-tone, either 'High Line' where the roof and the tops of the bonnet and boot are in the second colour, or 'Low Line' where the second colour extends down the sides of the car to the waistline strip.

There are also Military staff car versions, up to 1954 these were numbered 139am, then briefly in 1954 they became 170m, after that until it was deleted in 1959 the number was 675.
