Volkswagen Type 34 Karmann Ghia

This really is a finely modelled car. The detail is very well done and the boot and bonnet both fit beautifully. From a packaging point of view it came with removable luggage and spare wheel, with the added realism of the spare wheel being visible from below. You also get an engine cover in the rear compartment, just like the real one - great for cooking your luggage I guess. There is also luggage detail formed into the interior inside the rear window.

Corgi made this car from February 1963 to 1968. You will find it in a range of versions, paintwork can be cream, gold, red, plum or orange. The interior can be red, yellow or white. The orange one is highest value, plum and gold tie for second place with red and cream bringing up the rear.

Now pay attention for a little VW anorakage. There were two different cars both called 'Volkswagen Karmann Ghia' in production at the same time. This is the 1500 Karmann Ghia, Type 34. The model in the Dinky range the Type 14 Karmann Ghia was based on the Beetle, it was produced from 1954 to 1974 and deleted when the Sirocco arrived. This car was based on the Type 3 Volkswagen, the 1500 and was know as the Big (Grosse) Karmann. It was produced from 1961 to 1969.
