Dinky Toys 129/262; Volkswagen Beetle
This is Dinky showing that they can do what Corgi can do and it's a very attractive model. Maybe the modelling is not quite so sharp as Corgi at their peak and the engineering is certainly less good, especially the hinge on the engine cover. This model spanned 1965 to 1975. At the start of its run it would have been very much second best to Corgi. By 1975 the tables had turned completely as Corgi went into decline.
The 129 Beetle was always blue, metallic mid blue from 1965 to 1972 with spun hubs and bright metallic blue from 1972 to 1975 with Whizzwheels.
The same casting was used for the Swiss Post Office (PTT) export model between 1966 and 1976, prior to 1966 the older 181 Beetle casting was used under the same model number (262) for the PTT car.
