This is a model of one of the many attempts the boys back in Wolfsburg
had to find a replacement for the Beetle. It is still a Beetle
underneath, but without the charm. They even made it in an estate
version, a rear engined estate car seems such a mad idea these days but
it was not alone, there were others I'm sure. Intriguing that VW were
trying to replace the Beetle back in 1962 and only succeeded when the
Golf came along in 1974.
This is an early try by Dinky at opening bits and interior
detail, they once again fail to get the shut lines right, That bonnet
really does not fit properly at all. None the less it is an attractive
little car, mine has the wrong size tyres though, it needs smaller ones.
Dinky produced it between 1963 and 1967. It is either off-white or
bronze, the bronze car can have a red or blue interior. There should be
a suitcase in the boot.
This Dinky was sourced before January 2004 (when I started keeping
records) from Ebay
