Dinky Toys 128; Mercedes-Benz 600
The 600 replaced the Mercedes-Benz W189 limousine, which was nicknamed the Adenauer, after Konrad Adenauer, who employed several of these during his term as the first West German chancellor. Production of the 600 began in 1964 and continued through to 1981.During this time, production totalled 2,677 units across the different body configurations, long and short wheelbase and open roofs, the car of choice for your average dictator of a banana republic when reviewing the troops. As Clarkson (who once owned one) said, the owner of one of these cars could usually call up their own air force if required.
With its demise in 1981, the 600 marked the last ultra-luxury model that the brand produced in an unbroken line since the model 60 hp Simplex from 1903. best not to think too closely about who actually used them during that period.
The Dinky was made from 1964 to 1979. In 1967 it got Speedwheels and lost its rear seat passengers, retaining the chauffeur, in 1975 the colour was changed from metallic maroon to metallic blue. Interiors can be blue or white.
