Dinky Toys 23n/231/206; Maserati Racing Car

Dinky brought this one out in 1953, Maserati had been the 8C since 1938 and had dropped it the previous year (1952), Dinky however flogged it until 1964, 26 years after it had first raced. It is always red, it always has a white flash on the top of the bonnet, but the wheels and base plates varied over the years and when in 1954 Meccano decided to box their cars individually (231) rather than to sell them from trays of half a dozen, you got box variations which also affect value.

As the model got long in the tooth sales fell away so late releases are scarce, those slow selling latecomers have either red or yellow plastic hubs, these, when boxed (or on a blister pack - 206), are worth serious cash.
