Dinky Toys 23h/234/209; Ferrari Racing Car |
It is a Ferrari 500 as raced in the 1952/3 seasons and driven by (among others) Mike Hawthorn and Alberto Ascari, who won nearly all the Grands Prix in 1952 and 1953 with it, if Ascari didn't win then one of the other Ferrari team members won, in fact the only Grand Prix in 1952/3 not won by this car was the Italian GP in 1953 where it came 2nd, 3rd and 4th. Pretty successful then.
It was released by Dinky in 1953 and remained in production until 1964.
It was sold under three model numbers. Up to 1954 it was 23h when it switched to 234, in 1962 it was changed to 209. For most of the production run the wheels were painted, with spun hubs coming in 1962 and being replaced with plastic hubs in the same year, consequently spun hubs are very scarce. Most cars are blue with a yellow nose cone, you will see some with a yellow triangle on the nose and these too are scarce and valuable.
