Dinky Toys 254/40h; Austin Taxi Cab
This Dinky Toys version of the Austin Taxi (FX3) stayed in production from 1951 to 1963.
It is one of those models for which I've only really appreciated the detail after it has been photographed and blown up. It's worth clicking on the images to see them full size to appreciate how well modelled this item is. However I'm not sure how many taxis in London were painted yellow in the fifties, especially since all the Ealing comedies seem to be in black and white.
Early releases were under number 40H and were not individually boxed. In 1954 the cars were renumbered 254 and boxed. The 40H cars are dark blue or yellow, 254 comes in a much wider range of colours, mostly shades of yellow, brown & blue with varying chassis colours.
