Dinky Toys 133; Cunningham C-5R; White, Blue Hubs; RN31 |
The C5-R was the successor of the C4-R and was designed for use in the 1953 Le Mans 24-hour race. The open sports car had a 5.5 litre Chrysler - V8 engine developing 310 hp at 5200 rpm. The C5-R had a solid front axle, Briggs Cunningham took the design from from the Kurtis Kraft - Indianapolis - single-seater racing car. Front and rear, there was a torsion bar suspension. The vehicle had a tubular frame and an aluminium body. The car came 3rd in the 1953 race crewed by Walters & Fitch. Dinky made it from 1955 to 1960. It is seen with brown or blue seats, later releases had spun hubs, bodywork is always white or off-white and the racing number is always 31. The later spun hubs cars are worth more, blue seats are worth marginally more than brown seats. This Dinky was sourced from a private collection in July 2020 |
