Matchbox King Size K-1/2; Foden 8 Wheel Tipper; Hoveringham
This is a very handsome model, the Hoveringham Foden tipper truck. It is
one of those models which had a life in both the King-Size range and in
the smaller scale 1-75 range. Hoveringham is a village in
Nottinghamshire with significant gravel deposits - Wikipedia: "Gravel
extraction was started in this area in 1939, by the Hoveringham Gravel
company, which was taken over in 1982 by Tarmac. The Hoveringham Gravel
Company used to have a mammoth as their logo on their lorries as a
celebration of the finding of mammoth remains in their workings."
The Foden Tipper Truck, K-2/B was released in 1963 and was the second
King-Size model to have the K-1 slot. It remained in the range through
until 1971. It is always an orange tipper on a red chassis cab, the only
variation being the plastic suspension is sometimes white and sometimes
green, having no effect on value. Hoveringham Gravels Ltd issued a promo
version in their own box, if you can find one of these it will be quite
a valuable item. |
