Matchbox SpeedKings K-43/1; Cambuster; Yellow
Yet another wild fantasy
model from Matchbox, once again mirroring the 1-75 range. In the
Super-Kings range there is this one and Bazooka, counterparts to Pi-Eyed
Piper and Big Banger which have a lot of similarities to these cars. I'm
guessing that this very stylised model was based on a Mustang or a
Camaro- or
at least on the Matchbox view of the Mustang at the time. An interesting
detail is the word Lledo cast into the rocker covers. This is the
surname of the chief designer at Matchbox Jack Odell, reversed. It is
also the
brand he used when he went on to form his own company after Matchbox
went under in the early 80s.
K-43/1 Cambuster was
released into the range in 1973 and was deleted in 1981, this example
was purchased and photographed in the very early days of Little Wheels,
before we started trading and I was just trying to get a record of as
many die casts as I could. It is very unusual in that we have not had
another one to get better pictures since this was bought in 2009. The
collection number or SKU of the car is 2976 we are almost at a quarter
of a million at the time of writing. |
