The car
version of this van was known by a range of tweedy county names like
Somerset, Devon, Dorset and Cambridge. The station wagon was
'Countryman'. They weren't going for the Challenger or Avenger market
then. They were staid and solid BMC products, sensible and reliable.
My dad had
one of the vans on our farm which did duty as sheep transport during the
week and had a back seat bolted in on Sundays to take the family to
Chapel. He had cut windows in the sides, so we had a country view to go
with the sheepy smell.
These really
do not sell well at all, there are so many out there. You will see the
Brooke Bond van in a plain white mailing box as they were given away by
the tea company if you saved enough packet tops and sent away for one. |
