![]() |
Box notes: "Based on the ever popular and sturdy "Model T chassis; this robust and efficient van served many tradesmen throughout the 1910s and 1920's, the basic shape not changing for almost 20 years. The H J Heinz Company Limited used these vehicles extensively to deliver their products, and the distinctive gherkin on the roof always signalled the delivery of Heinz 57 varieties of fine food products" When it comes to die-cast veteran cars the Model T reigns supreme, there are more Model Ts that anything else, among those Model Ts the Models of Yesteryear Model T van is the most ubiquitous. They were made in millions over 10 years or so in dozens of variations. I have more than 46 varieties on file and I know I don't yet have them all. How apt that the Heinz 57 varieties model is the one which defines the model, there are probably 57 and more varieties of the MOY van. So are they worth having? Well it depends. It is certainly a fine model and deserved its massive popularity which means it always displays well, the low prices for the more common models means that you can get a good collection of mint and boxed examples without spending too much. However there are some which fetch very good money indeed. often it has to do with the rear doors on the van. They come in three varieties: shut lines in cast relief, referred to as 'engraved', tampo printed with simple outlines and tampo printed with decorative fancy design. There is no rule about which of these are valuable, it all depends on how many were made - you really have to do careful research on this one - but it makes picking them up at boot sales fun as you never know what you've got till you get it home and look it up There are also dozens of code 3 models out there too, I've added a selection at the bottom of the page |
