Models of Yesteryear Y-15/1; 1907 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost

Models of Yesteryear

These are the box notes: "This car is the original Silver Ghost, built in 1907, which to date has completed well over 400,000 miles and is still in excellent running order. In May 1907 this car was driven a distance of over 400 miles, entirely in top gear. Shortly afterwards, it covered 14,371 miles non-stop."

This very commonly seen MOY was made from 1960 to 1969, it was the first of the Models of Yesteryear to fit the now familiar pattern of cars bigger than 1:50 scale with moulded plastic seats and standardised wheels & tyres. Prior to this the models had been all sizes and sorts of vehicles with very customised modelling & styling. I guess this was Lesney gearing up for volume production, and there are millions of these cars out there.

The only versions which get any sort of premium are the very early ones with the rear light picked out in red and the rear number plate in silver; these cars will have grey tyres, and a version with green seats. These two aside values are pretty low for 50 year old boxed models.
