Models of Yesteryear Y-4/2; 1905 Shand Mason Horse-Drawn Fire Engine |

The cute and really nicely made horse-drawn fire engine was in the MOY catalogue from 1960 to 1965. I never really got horse-drawn die casts though when I was a kid - they just didn't run along the carpet properly, but this one was popular and long-lived. Unsurprisingly for a fire engine it is always red. There are variations though. The horses can be white, grey, brown, copper or black. The brigade logos can be Kent or London Fire Brigade and the crew can have more or less hand painted detail to their breast plates and helmets. In general the Kent Fire Brigade ones are harder to find than London and of the London ones bronze horses are rarest. Scarcest and most valuable of all are the silver plated Jack O'Dell souvenir models. |
