Box notes: "This Dutch car will, of course, be familiar to those
thousands of people who saw the film 'Genevieve', it being selected as
the opposition to the Darraq of that name. It has a four cylinder,
2456cc engine, and the price in England in 1904 was £460" I remember
Genevieve being shown at school as an end of term treat, which shows how
old I am.
The Yesteryear car was made from 1961 to 1968 and was always (nearly
always) yellow with green plastic seats. There were a very few cars made
in maroon, early in the production run, and these are vanishingly rare
and worth good money. It is the same maroon colour as was used on the
Santa Fe locomotive. The early cars are pale yellow, almost cream. The
colour gets darker through the production run with the later cars almost
a mustard colour. Early cars have the bolt head detail on the wheel rims
emulating split rims on the full size car, these were replaced by the
usual brass spoked stepped rims. Tyres started off grey knobbly, then
black knobbly and later black smooth tread. Other than that the main
variations are whether or not the hand-applied gold trim is complete.
It's a nice model and clean examples in good early boxes will still
fetch a decent price.
Boxes: All the early cars, pale yellow paint, split rims and knobbly
tyres will be in type D1 and a few in type D2 boxes. The pale yellow
fine tread tyres will be in type D1, D2, D3, E and E1 boxes. The darker
yellow cars will be in type D3, E, E1 and F boxes. |
