Husky, Juniors & Rockets |
Last Edit: 28/03/2020 |
This section is to showcase the small scale Corgis beginning with the Husky range as made by Corgi and sold in Woolworths stores from 1964 to 1969 in the UK, outside the UK they were available in a range of stores.
In 1970 they were renamed Corgi Juniors and made more widely available. The Corgi Juniors range stayed quite close to the old Husky range right through to 1983 when the brand went into receivership. Juniors have been used over and over again for corporate promotions and petrol give-always so the variations in the range tend to be enormous, A collection of these could grow fast as they tend to be cheap! Eventually the 'Juniors' bit of the brand was dropped and later releases are just branded 'Corgi'
Finally we have the Corgi Rockets made in 1970 and 1971 to compete head-on with Mattel's Hot Wheels, these on the other hand can be rare and expensive. These went out of production when Mattel sued Mettoy for breach of copyright and won, forcing the dropping of the Rockets range.
My reference for cataloguing my collection has been Bill Manzke's book 'Corgi Juniors and Husky Models' without which this would never have been possible. I cannot recommend his book enough.
