This was a recent find. I knew my old childhood toy box was in the
loft over the garage somewhere but had not seen it in at least ten years.
Digging for some other long lost possessions my son managed to unearth
it.
These are the Corgis, Dinkys, Huskies and Matchboxes I played with as a
child. After my time with them they passed through the hands of my
brother's children and given that they were in a pretty sorry state
after my years with them, the subsequent owners were pretty tough on
them too, so these are as playworn as it gets. I was also a pretty bad
and very persistent amateur repainter so you will see some horrendous
repaints here. There seems to be an obsession with metallic red, blue
and green paired with matt black and some pastels. I must also have been
heavily into customisation using decals from Airfix aircraft, ships and anything
else that came to hand.
My strategy is first to record this collection
as it emerges from the Brookes Beattie biscuit tin in which it has spent
the past forty or so years and maybe do a little selective restoration
as time goes on.
