Land-Rover Series 3 109" Station Wagon

This is less a collectable then one of the kids' toys. I had a little row of model Land Rovers on a shelf in the living room and one of the boys put this toy there - years ago, ten at least - and it just seemed to get absorbed into the display, consequently it didn't get played with that much and remained in this fine condition. However it is not really a great model by any standards. It is an OK representation of a 109" Station Wagon by a modeller who has seen one in a photograph. Most of it is sort of OK and you can see why they have made parts of it heavier than they should be to get durability as a toy, however if you turn it over and look at the bottom you will see that the modeller never really saw one of these - the propshaft and axle detail is very poor. It is completely wrong, however the spare wheel holder is bang-on for a very early Series 3 - they were mounted low on the door just as in the model. All the info I can find on this model mentions 1971 as the date and this is right for a 1971 model Land Rover.

What I cannot discover is anything about the event advertised in the decals. There are a load of references to the event - but all of them lead to models of rally cars. There is nothing I can find about the event itself. It looks like a major global car rally organised from Italy in the early seventies, more than that I do not know. If anyone out there can enlighten me I'd be very pleased.
