USA Police Car (Ford Fairlane) - 258 |
|
Why were we sixties kids so fascinated with American Police
cars? There's always a big concentration on Police, Ambulance & fire in
all diecast ranges, but I remember that most of us had American police
cars in our toyboxes. In the Dinky range 258 USA Police car could be a
Ford, like this one a Dodge, a De-Soto or a Cadillac, the latter
presumably for patrolling the more upmarket neighbourhoods.
This is a model of the 1961 Ford Fairlane in Police trim. I found a picture (on a website dedicated to the Massachusetts state police vehicles) of this car as a real police car back in '61. It's worth a look. The rozzers' uniform in early 60's Massachusetts was a bit Nazi for my liking. America is a strange and uncivilised country, the more rural bits back forty odd years ago could be a bit scary. These days it's not an issue (as I've none left) but one would hate to be pulled over by this cove for having long hair, blow the picture up and it looks like he's wearing an iron cross. |
