very slight fudge here. The photo is of a competition model of the
Mustang, numbered I think 424. The 370 Mustang was the first release of
this toy under the old Corgi management, I think this one was a later
product from the new Corgi company, post 1983. Same casting though.
The original Mustang
was released 33 years ago as I write this. It was a ground breaking car,
part of Lee Iacocca, then head of Ford, seeing a change in the future of
automobiles, a move away from my beloved fin monsters to smaller, more
competent cars with real driver appeal. Ford have spent the intervening
years failing to recapture the magic of the original. There has been a
more or less new Mustang every one of those 33 years since, most petrol
heads, given the choice would go for the original. |
