This is one of a number Unimogs on the website, all sharing elements of casting and detail. This being the short wheelbase version with the fixed pick-up body, it should have a khaki coloured plastic moulded canvas tilt. There was a re-release of this one later without a lot of the detail. The detail though is what is special, fantastic detail on the chassis, mirrors, the wheels & tyres. It is very good indeed.

The 1970 release was yellow with a charcoal metallic chassis red front bumper and mudguards. This version has fantastic detail throughout and demonstrates Corgi at the absolute peak of their modelling powers. Everything about it is good and works wonderfully well. In 1976 it was updated and simplified. This later version is metallic green with a yellow chassis and a tan tilt. It has simplified wheels and much of the detail has been done away with.

Ramsay mentions a blue and yellow version, but I'm convinced they have mixed it up with the No.409 tipper version. Ramsay does not get the detail right at all on the Unimogs, actually the same is true of the Great Book of Corgi and the handbook that goes with it, neither book seems to give this truly excellent Corgi the attention it deserves. It is one of the very best.

One more curiosity is that Corgi gave it model number 406 and it is also a Mercedes-Benz 406, seriously confusing, but good for your Google rankings I guess!
