Ford Capri

3 Litre

Typically Mazak, the modelling is heavy and crude, but for some reason Capris alway cheer me up, they are such a fun car, peobably the first mass produced car released in the UK that was all about looks and fun, 'The car you always promised yourself'. It wasn't a hard core sports car, nor was it a practical saloon. It was a a car to be seen in. My elder brother had a 1970 3 Litre GT Capri and it was fantastic - real muscle and attitude. Just a shame I was too young to drive at the time.

I bought this pair at a toy fair in Slough in Sept 2008 and as you can see below I stripped them down and made one from the two. The one with the black bonnet had broken A pillars but the interior was complete and the suspension intact. The other one had a sound bodyshell but broken suspension and missing seat backs. Both were filthy, neither window unit was perfect, but I used the better one. I used the wheels from a Ferrari Berlinetta I'd bought in a job lot for 50p and put on square section Corgi branded tyres. I was unable though to do anything with the tail lights. What an improvement once those awful Whizzwheels are gone, not only are they horrid to look at the scale was wrong. At the end I've shown the heap of what was left over.
