CHEVROLET IMPALA POLICE PATROL CAR |
The original '59 Chevy model was a finely made and very good model, this re-making of it kept much of the good workmanship of the original and added flashy chrome detailing. The idea of splitting the casting horizontally and running a layer of vacuum plated plastic through the car combining front and rear trim, waistline trim and suspension was clever and neatly thought out. The only slightly odd decision was that of using a car from the previous decade. Why not a Ford Fairlane or some other contemporary sedan? However the '59 Impala is such a great design though I don't suppose anyone minded it was old.
This is a replacement for a really scruffy example I had previously. It has cleaned up really nicely. When it arrived it had dirt deeply ingrained in the shut lines and all the corners of the windows. I used plain water and a paint brush to soak all the dirty bits and cotton wool balls to clean it up. One has to be very careful not to damage the decals. The one on the bonnet is waterslide and on the doors are paper stickers. Neither respond well to water. When drying it with the airline several large flakes of paint came off the baseplate, but the black on the bodywork is deep and lustrous. It actually looks a lot better in the metal than in these pictures.
