Platform TRAILER

The Platform Trailer was released first in 1958 with a wire drawbar, the cast drawbar version came out at the end of 1962. You will find this trailer in a lot of versions, it was in production in one form or another from 1958 right through to the mid/late 60s and as well as the two different styles of drawbar it is found with either turned or spun hubs, had two colour options as a core range product and a number of special colour schemes only found in gift sets.

The core range product, sold as a stand-alone item had a metallic silver-grey deck with either pale yellow or pale blue mudguards and drawbar. The red & blue colour option was the Chipperfields circus version that came in a Gift Set with a Land Rover and Elephant crate (with an elephant). The blue and yellow one was in a gift set with the ERF lorry as a builders merchant set with cement bags and planks. They used the same back body for this trailer as was used for the Commer & ERF Platform lorries and they were therefore compatible with all the Corgi Cargoes .

The one with the white deck and baby blue chassis came from a milk lorry gift set which was released concurrently with the Bedford milk tanker and the Karrier Bantam dairy produce van, all in natty matching blue and white livery. It was also found in all yellow as part of one of the agricultural gift sets.

I've seen most of the gift set colour options sold as single boxed items too so I'm sure surpluses found their way into the shops in this way. So many were produced that it is a very commonly found item and values are not high, there does not seem either to be any premium value associated with any of the variations.
