The
Platform Trailer was released first in 1958 with a wire drawbar, the cast
drawbar version came out at the end of 1962. You will find this trailer in a lot
of versions, it was in production in one form or another from 1958 right through
to the mid/late 60s and as well as the two different styles of drawbar it is
found with either turned or spun hubs, had two colour options as a core range
product and a number of special colour schemes only found in gift sets.
The core
range product, sold as a stand-alone item had a metallic silver-grey deck with
either pale yellow or pale blue mudguards and drawbar. The red & blue colour
option was the Chipperfields circus version that came in a Gift Set with a Land
Rover and Elephant crate (with an elephant). The blue and yellow one was in a
gift set with the ERF lorry as a builders merchant set with cement bags and
planks. They used the same back body for this trailer as was used for the Commer
& ERF Platform lorries and they were therefore compatible with all the Corgi
Cargoes . |
