The cages were sold as
kits so relied on a child to put them together and if trodden on would
shatter, no wonder there are so few left. This one came without decals
so I bought some new ones. I ordered two thinking two stickers, but two
sets turned up. With a lot of misgiving I scraped the very worn
originals of the Land-Rover tilt and stuck the new ones on. Now all I
need is an elephant and they do turn up occasionally. You can buy them
as aftermarket kits, but I'd really like the real thing if I can find
one, however the prices do tend to get silly.
This group has been put together using models from my collection.
GS19 Was first
released in 1962, it always had the second release Land-Rover (438), but
early versions of the set have a tin tilt which is normally found on the
old Series 1 Land-Rover without seats or suspension. The tin tilt was
soon replaced by the usual plastic tilt. The early sets with the tin
tilt are harder to find and worth more if you do find one. The set was
deleted in 1968. They sold in large quantities but it is a popular model
and values are good. |
