Hardtop

I need to get my facts right here and I'm not sure. I believe this to be 304S as its the later, vacuum plated version. I think it reverts to 304 without the S when given spoked wheels in 1964 - but if all that is true then this model should have a cast base and suspension which it clearly does not. This is the only 300SL I own at present so it's hard to verify. It may be that the SL hardtop never got suspension or seats. - at least that is what I wrote in January 2007 when I got this model, not realising that the suspension on the 300SL is unique in the Corgi range.

They retain the tin bottom and instead of lateral wires or plastic extensions from interior or bright trim as used on some later models, this one has a butterfly spring for each axle mounted cross-way. It can be stiff and prone to rusting up which is what had happened here. After doing a bottom-off restoration on my 303s I looked again at this model and found, contrary to my initial thoughts that it actually does have suspension.

This one's a bit battered but its good enough to keep.
