This is such an odd one. Three cars from the 1961 model year are chosen to be vacuum plated in gold and sold as a gift set. The price was one Guinea. 21 shillings, £1.05p in today's currency. What an odd choice though. A really classy Bentley, a rather brassy British Ford and a quirky, off the wall American car that never really hit mass market appeal.

Only 23,000 sets were sold so it remains a bit of a rarity. I was lucky enough to spot this set on eBay. I looked in when I had a couple of minutes before I needed to go to work one Wednesday morning and the auction was due to finish in minutes with no bids. I bid a tenner and won it. OK the models are a bit playworn, but I've never ever seen this set for sale in any condition anywhere. I guess I got a bargain.

The Golden Guinea Gift Set, GS20, was introduced in 1961 and remained in the range until 1964. Complete sets with a full set of packaging and unopened accessories are rare and will always be expensive.
