lorry load planks |
Corgi Cargoes were, with the exception of the transport box for the Massey Ferguson tractor, all made in standard sizes to fit the load beds of Corgi commercial vehicles - in particular the Commer & ERF flatbed lorries, their dropside variants and the two four-wheel trailers; numbers 100 and 102. Of course all the flat bodies shared the same casting and all the dropsides shared another casting which enabled the development of this range which added heaps to the play value. I saved up my own pocket money and bought a plank load which I know is lurking in my garage somewhere. There is a picture below of all the cargoes on a mixture of Commer & ERF lorries with trailers and a mixture of flatbed and dropside bodies.
If I'd photographed this lorry & trailer with one plank load and one cement bag load I'd have a Gift Set.
Meanwhile on the left are two examples I bought off eBay, on the right is the one I bought back in the sixties with my own pocket money.
