The Series 1 Land-Rover, RAC Rescue was made from 1959 to 1962 when it was replaced by a Series 2 Land-Rover with seats and suspension (416s). The original 416 has neither seats nor suspension. You will see it with or without the roofboard and if you are very lucky in yellow as a Belgian export in the livery of Touring Secours (TS). This latter version is very rare and worth serious money. Of the blue ones, which are still pricey items in their own right, look for the one without the roofboard.
This one came in a mixed lot which I bought purely to get this model. Had it been advertised as what it is and sold on its own it would have made more than the mixed lot in which it came. As a buyer it always pays to look in mixed lots for goodies like this. As a seller it shows that one always gets a better price selling singly and being very clear as to what is on offer. I know its bashed about but these are not that common. This one is a late release on number 415 (you can tell by the style of the wheels) before the 'S' version which was actually the new Series 2. You absolutely never see the Series 2 Radio Rescue. Bashed as it is this one looks even more realistic. I like to see Series 1 Land Rovers (real ones) which have never been restored, they are so full of character.
