Euclid TC12 Tractor |
This is a big beast. Its is really BIG and heavy. There was a re-release in 1963 of this model but as far as I can see the only difference was the addition of a driver. There may have been more decals or it may be that mine just lost them.
Until I began this collection I was unaware of this model. One generally knew what was in the Corgi range from ogling them in the toyshop and what one's friends owned. The catalogues were also must-have favourite reading - so how did this one pass me by? It is a curious beast too.
Some Internet quotes
"The Euclid Company of Ohio was a company specialized in heavy equipment for earthmoving, namely dump trucks and wheel tractor-scrapers, that operated from the United States of America from the 1920s to the 1950s, then it was purchased and converted into a section of General Motors and later on by Hitachi, Ltd." Wikipedia
"The Euclid TC 12 was actually 2 of the smaller C6 tractors side by side with the adjacent tracks removed. It was introduced in 1955 and at 365 hp was more powerful that the early Cat D9's although it never achieved their popularity. As I understand it, the tractor could be steered any one of four different ways or any combination of them. As it had two engines and two power trains, one track could be put in a higher gear than the other, one engine could be revved up or one slowed down, it could be steered with the usual clutch and brake steering system or one track could be put in forward and the other in reverse. This last gave it 'spin-turn' capability which, I'm told was a first in a production tractor." www.antiquetractors.com
