The Corgi model is the blue one on the right, the red on is a model
made by Mettoy before the launch of the Corgi brand, it is interesting
to note that about five years later Corgi were back making Co-op
liveried trucks. Mettoy is the company that in the fifties decided to
launch a range of toy cars to compete with Dinky, that range was to be
called Corgi. Here we get a view of Mettoy moving an existing product
into the new range.
In 1957 Corgi remodelled the Karrier Bantam for the Smiths Mobile
Shop, this was a completely new model of the same truck, which could be
seen as odd, why not reuse the same model?. This model returned as the
Lucozade van a year later in1958 and again in 1962 as the Dairy Produce
van

The Karrier Bantam 2 Tonner was
released in January 1957 as a Corgi, remaining in the range until 1960. The
Great Book of Corgi has it in blue with a red loadbed. In Ramsay it is also
mentioned in red and in grey, both still with the red loadbed. No premium is put
on these other colours. I suspect they are probably referring to the pre-Corgi
Mettoy releases. |
